GCC Emergency Summit in Jeddah Focuses on US–Iran Conflict
According to reports from regional media outlets, the meeting is taking place amid broader international attempts to contain the conflict and support indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, which are being mediated by Pakistan.
KUNA reported that Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has already traveled to Jeddah to represent Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the gathering.
Some media sources indicated that the summit could be conducted partly or fully via videoconference, suggesting that not all leaders may attend in person.
The agenda is expected to focus on the latest regional developments and their potential security and economic consequences, alongside efforts to ease tensions and strengthen regional stability.
Leaders are also likely to review Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the US and Iran, as well as the broader risks associated with any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, which is a critical route for global energy shipments and maritime trade.
In addition, the summit is expected to address recent incidents involving attacks on Gulf states, which some governments in the region have attributed to Iran and allied groups, further underscoring concerns over escalating security threats in the region.
